CHATEAU D' USSE rue Principale - 37420 Rigny-Ussé
Phone : +33(0)2 47 95 54 05 http://www.chateaudusse.fr chateau-dusse@wanadoo.fr At the edge of the dark and mysterious
forest of Chinon, the Majestic White outline of Ussé, the castle of
Sleeping Beauty stands impressively over the Indre Valley. It inspired
Perrault to write his famous stories and it remains a symbol of the
medieval fairytale castle inhabited by brave lords, beautiful ladies
and poets ... It was mainly built in the 15th and 16th centuries on
the foundations of an 11th century fortress, but its successive owners,
each with their personnal touch, brought to it a unique charm. In 1521
Charles d'Espinay built the collegiale chapel. In 1664 the Marquis de
Valentinay commissioned the formal gardens designed by Le Nôtre, the
famous architect of thre Gardens of Versailles. In 1885, the countess
de la Rochejacquelin whitout a direct heir, bequeathed Ussé to her grand-nephew,
the Count de Blacas. Ussé has since stayed the property and residence
of his descendants and retains the privilege to be able to welcome its
visitors into an ancestral home still inhabited to this day by its owners...
